DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—The Bellarmine University Co-ed Cheerleading team brought home an eighth place finish in the National Cheerleading Association’s Collegiate Championship, which was held Thursday and Friday in Daytona Beach.

The Bellarmine squad competed in the Intermediate Small Co-ed I division, which was one of the largest in the competition and consisted mostly of NCAA Division I schools.

After Thursday morning’s preliminaries, Bellarmine was in the No. 11 position which did not qualify them for the finals, but did place them in the “Challenge Cup” competition.  Bellarmine came back to win the Challenge Cup on Thursday evening, which earned them a berth into the national finals.

According to Bellarmine Coach Megan Carpenter-Harris, the team ranked in the top five in terms of routine difficulty and execution.

Southern Methodist won the Intermediate Small Co-ed I division, followed by the University of Missouri and North Texas.
