INDIANAPOLIS — Maggie Walroth has followed the conclusion of the first regular season of her Bellarmine University women’s tennis career with her first Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week award.
The acknowledgement came after the Knights’ freshman went 4-0 in two league victories on Friday and Saturday to help BU clinch a berth in the GLVC Tournament.
Bellarmine needed those two wins to ensure a spot in the postseason, and Walroth was victorious in singles and doubles play in an 8-1 triumph at McKendree on Friday and a 9-0 romp over Illinois Springfield on Saturday.
Against the Bearcats, the freshman dominated at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kelcie Comley. The Cincinnati native also combined with senior Caitlin Hanley for an 8-2 triumph over Jessica Gaither and Charlee Goodman at No. 2 doubles.
In the GLVC Tournament berth-clinching victory over the Prairie Stars, Walroth outlasted Jane Carter 6-4, 3-6, 10-4 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Hanley for a commanding 8-0 win over Carter and Faith Hook at No. 1 doubles.
Walroth finished the regular season with a team-best 38 combined wins, going 18-8 in singles play and 20-6 in doubles action.
