The final week of the high school girls’ lacrosse regular season has arrived! The state championship game will be played on May 25 at 7 p.m. at hosting school Kentucky Country Day.
The KCD Bearcats (17-2) and the Sacred Heart Valkyries (15-2) hold the two top records in the state. Last year marked the fifth-straight year that the two teams met each other in the Kentucky Scholastic Lacrosse League Girls’ State Tournament championship. The Bearcats won in 2015 and 2012 while the Sacred Heart took the title in 2011, 2013, and 2014.
At the collegiate level, the No. 8/9 University of Louisville Cardinals face No. 15 Northwestern in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on May 13 in South Bend, Ind. The winner will face No. 6/7 Notre Dame on May 15 on the Fighting Irish’s home field. The championship game is set or May 29 at 12 p.m. at Talen Energy Stadium on the campus of St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia (will air on ESPNU).
