With about one and a half weeks left in the regular season, Bullitt East has surpassed Male as the leading Louisville-area team in the latest Kentucky Softball Coaches Association coaches poll. Bullitt East is ranked No. 4. There are four Louisville teams in the top 10, eight total on the top-25 list.

The Male Bulldogs dropped a few notches after losing to Bullitt East on May 3 and Butler on May 5 (the score was 2-4 in both games). Male won all five other their games in the Owensboro Catholic Classic May 6-7.

Bullitt East has won the last three straight, will host No. 8 Ballard on May 10, and will play No. 17 Christian County in the Best of the West tournament in Bowling Green on May 13.

The Ballard Bruins will also get some competition in the Best of the West, including a May 13 match up against No. 1 McCracken County.

Butler’s May 5 upset was the first time the Bearettes had beaten Male since 2007. Butler is on a nine-game winning streak and will host two teams this week: Fern Creek on May 10 and Assumption on May 12.

Other Louisville-area teams that made the latest poll are No. 15 Mercy, No. 18 Holy Cross, No. 20 Collins, and No. 24 duPont Manual.
