Every week, the Louisville Women’s Sports Network highlights a local woman by asking her six questions about her health and fitness routine. This week’s guest is Morgan DeYoung. If there is a woman you’d like us to feature, email suggestions to email@example.com.
I’ve been married to my best friend for four years. We met in Africa on a missions trip. I have three wolf dogs and they are my babies. I’ve been practicing yoga for two years after coming off 10 years of competitive swimming, and just completed my 200-hour yoga teaching certification in February. Social media (aka posting photos to Instagram) is my full time job. I travel often to work on different yoga shoots and collaborate or partake in campaigns with different brands. I share my life with over 180,000 people on Instagram (@the_southern_yogi). It’s a very humbling experience and I try to take it one day at a time.
Six Questions About Your Fitness & Health
I actually stray away from a set routine. As long as I’m staying active 5-6 days a week, that’s about as routine as I get in the fitness world. I do anything from yoga or Acroyoga to hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, strength training, HIIT circuits, or trail running. I like to keep my body guessing!
2) How do you prepare for a workout?
Before any workout I ALWAYS remind myself that fitness is a gift. It’s not something any of us are entitled to and our health could be stripped away at any moment. It gives me an extra boost of motivation before I begin.
3) What do you eat, drink or do for quick energy?
For a quick snack, I love bananas with peanut butter, almonds, fig bars or apples with cheese slices.
I live off breakfast foods. I love to drink English breakfast tea with a splash of milk and sugar. And I try to drink water with any type of infused fruit. I love oatmeal, granola, yogurt, pineapple with cottage cheese, waffles with peanut butter and bananas, toast with beans and avoacado on top. Like I said – I’m a breakfast person.
5) What do you snack on between meals when training?
Same as #3: bananas with peanut butter, almonds, fig bars or apples with cheese slices.
6) What are your fitness & health goals?
My main goal is to always be happy with whatever I’m doing. With fitness, that means finding a way to stay active that I’m passionate about. I used to force myself to step onto treadmills or lift weights or do things I thought “had to be done” in order to “in shape.” Right now, I’m the happiest and in the best shape I’ve ever been in just from listening to my body and having fun with life.
