Louisville’s Olympics Update: August 8

Get ready as we prepare to bring you details for the 2016 Women In Sports Honors (WISH) as well as the #40and4 campaign!

But for now, here’s today’s update from the 2016 Olympic Games on women from the city of Louisville or the University of Louisville who are competing in Rio:

Angel McCoughtry – Team USA Basketball

McCoughtry and Team USA defeated Spain 103-63 at 11 a.m. today. They will play Serbia on Aug. 10 at 2:30pm, followed by an Aug. 12 game against Canada, also scheduled for 2:30pm. The basketball format for the Games includes two groups of six teams. Every team in each group plays against one another, and the top four from each group will move on to the quarterfinals.

Jessica Javelet – Team USA Rugby

Javelet and Team USA defeated Fiji 12-7 today in a 1 p.m. semifinals match. They will play France in the fifth place final at 5 p.m. today. Updates to be posted on LWSN social media.

Tanja Kyllainen – Team Finland Swimming

Kyllainen, swimming for her native Finland team, placed 25th in the 200m individual medley heats today with her time of 2:14.97. The top 16 advance to the semifinals.
