Get ready as we prepare to bring you details for the 2016 Women In Sports Honors (WISH) happening on Sept. 20, well as our #40and4 campaign!
But for now, here’s today’s update from the 2016 Olympic Games on women from the city of Louisville or the University of Louisville who are competing in Rio:
Angel McCoughtry – Team USA Basketball
The basketball format for the Games includes two groups of six teams. Every team in each group plays against one another, and the top four from each group will move on to the quarterfinals. Here are the three, already-scheduled games remaining for McCoughtry and Team USA:
- * Aug. 10 at 2:30 p.m. – Team USA defeated Serbia 110-84
- * Aug. 12 at 2:30 p.m. vs Canada
- * Aug. 14 at 11:15 a.m. vs China
Jessica Javelet – Team USA Rugby
Javelet and Team USA defeated France 19-5 on Aug. 8 to win the fifth place final. Australia defeated New Zealand 24-17 for the gold medal and Canada defeated Great Britain 33-10 for the bronze medal.
Andrea Kneppers – Team Netherlands Swimming
A 2016 graduate of U of L, Kneppers competed with her native Netherlands team in the 4x200m freestyle relay heats at 1:36 p.m. The Netherlands placed 14th with a time of 7:58.74. They did not advance in the top eight for the finals.
Kelsi Worrell – Team USA Swimming
Although U of L senior Kelsi Worrell didn’t advance to the 100 yard butterfly finals, she is a possible for the 4×100-meter medley relay event.
