Assumption crushed Collegiate 9-0 in an opening pool play game at Sacred Heart’s Apple Tournament Saturday.
Jenna McKune led the Rockets (1-0) with three goals while Ashley Willbur and Erica Cooper both added a goal and an assist.
“Jenna is a very well rounded person and can play several positions,” Assumption head coach Debbie Judd said. “She started at sweeps today. She can play anywhere on the field and she’s definitely really good around the cage too.”
Emma Spinetto, Chloe Fox, Meredith Boeckmann, and Camryn Pichea each scored a goal apiece. Lee Ann Gordon also added an assist.
Willbur put the Rockets up 1-0 with 22:00 remaining in the first half. McKune and Spinetto both scored later in the half giving the Rockets a 3-0 halftime lead.
It was smooth sailing in the second half as McKune scored twice and Fox, Boeckmann, Cooper, and Pichea also scored.
Shelby Wuest stood in the goal for Assumption and delivered the shutout.
“There passing was better, we’ve been working on that,” Judd said. “They’ve been supporting each other and spacing correctly. That’s the thing about defense you have to be in the right place to intercept or support the other person. I thought they did a good job with that.”
Assumption plays Ballard Monday at 4:30 p.m. in their second Apple Tournament pool play game.
