We are 23 days away from the 2nd annual Women In Sports Honors (WISH)! Here’s a look at the fourth of 15 teams that will receive our “Outstanding Team of the Year” award for their respective sport. We’ll cover one team per day, so stay tuned…

Basketball Team of the Year:  Butler Traditional High

The Butler Bears have continued a successful campaign in dominating the Sixth Region and establishing themselves as one of the best teams in the state. With a 31-5 record, Butler won the Sixth Region and celebrated its second state title in three consecutive seasons (third state title in nine seasons) this past spring. It was also the fifth state title in school history, making the victory a tie for most state championships with Laurel County and Ashland Blazer.

The Bears went 16-5 against top-20 teams from four different states. In Louisville Invitational Tournament (LIT) action, the Bears also took their fifth title in school history with a 24 points-per-game margin of victory.

All the while, Butler held a team grade point average of 3.6. Jaelynn Penn was named First Team All-State, Fontasia Jeffries nabbed Third Team All-State, and Janna Lewis was named Honorable Mention All-State.
