Produced by the Louisville Women’s Sports Network, WISH is presented by KentuckyOne Health Sports Medicine and Kroger. It is supported in part by Bill Collins Ford, WAVE 3 News, UPS, and Alpha Media.
For now, here’s a look at the eighth of 15 teams that will receive our “Outstanding Team of the Year” award for their respective sport. We’ll cover one team per day, so stay tuned…
Cross Country Team of the Year: Louisville Male
Despite being ranked sixth in the state in the preseason, Male’s girls’ cross country team finished in the top 10 in all but one of the races they competed in last season. They won both the City Championships and the region – the first team in school history to do so. At both meets, four of Male’s top seven girls placed in the top 10 (out of 60 athletes at the City Championships; out of 51 athletes at the region meet). The Bulldogs were led by Kaitlyn Lacy, who won the region for a third-straight year.
At the state meet, Male placed 2nd in Class 3A with both the best overall team time (1:37.06 hours) and average individual finish time (19:25.31 minutes) of any other Louisville-area school across all three classes.
Three runners were named to First Team All-State while head coach Damon Smith was named Coach of the Year for the Louisville area.
