Soccer Team of the Year: Sacred Heart Academy
The Sacred Heart Valkyries’ soccer program went 22-4-1 last season, scoring 103 goals while only giving up seven. Mid-season, the Valkyries won the prestigious Lexington Catholic Lady Knights Challenge Cup defeating Manual, Highlands, and Notre Dame Academy.
Sacred Heart went on to capture the 27th District title and the Region 7 Championship with important wins over Male and Assumption. In the KHSAA state tournament, they defeated Simon Kenton, Notre Dame, and Bethlehem before capturing the state title with a 1-0 win over Lexington Catholic. The Valkyries set two new state records on their championship run with 22 shutouts on the season, and 12 straight to end the year, not giving up a goal for the last six weeks of the season.
The Valykries finished with three First Team All-State girls and two on the state all-tournament team. The state tournament MVP was Claire Fell, while Cat Fell was named Miss Kentucky Soccer.
As good as they are on the field, the Valkyries were also excellent in the classroom, compiling a team GPA of 3.81.
