Join us at the Crowne Plaza on Sept. 20 for the 2nd annual Women In Sports Honors (WISH)! We’ll be celebrating our city’s most decorated female athletes and contributors to women’s athletics. The evening will feature a VIP reception, table-seating dinner, cash bar, and awards ceremony.

Produced by the Louisville Women’s Sports Network, WISH is presented by KentuckyOne Health Sports Medicine and Kroger. It is supported in part by Bill Collins Ford, WAVE 3 News, UPS, and Alpha Media.

For now, here’s a look at the final of 15 teams that will receive our “Outstanding Team of the Year” award for their respective sport. We’ll cover one team per day, so stay tuned…

Field Hockey Team of the Year:  Sacred Heart Academy

The Sacred Heart Valkyries went 23-6-1 and walked away with the state title – its first since 2012 and sixth in 12 years. It was the Valkyries’ first title sanctioned by the KHSAA.

SHA’s Savannah Elpers was named tournament MVP and Katie Esselman was named Kentucky’s Miss Field Hockey a few weeks later.

During the season, Sacred Heart also won its state-renowned Apple tournament. In addition, 16 of the team’s upperclassmen made the NFHCA high school national academic squad. Esselman was also named a NFHCA All-American.

The Valkyries were loaded with talent and put it all together in the post-season to win it all in coach Eleanor Mitchell’s debut season with the team.

Join us as we celebrate Sacred Heart field hockey and a host of other team and individual winners at WISH on Sept. 20! For ticket information, click here.
