Fit 6: Emily Hughes

Fit 6: Emily Hughes

Every other week, the Louisville Women’s Sports Network highlights a local woman by asking her six questions about her health and fitness routine. This week’s guest is B.YOU manager Emily Hughes. If there is a woman you’d like us to feature, feel free to email conor.revell@gmail.com your suggestions.

I am the manager at B.YOU Fitness {her modern fitness boutique} and I also instruct classes. I began at B.YOU as a client back in 2014 and have been involved with B.YOU ever since. I joined B.YOU because of the variety of classes that they offered and within the first few classes I was hooked. I saw my body changing in ways that I had not seen before by going to the gym and running. I began seeing muscles that I hadn’t seen before which was such an amazing feeling. I am a firm believer that B.YOU can help people achieve their goals one class at a time and I love watching clients grow stronger. It’s amazing being apart of such a positive community of women at B.YOU.

I went to Assumption High School and played soccer for three years and I was a part of the St. X cheerleading team for two years. I have always been a pretty active person and love the competitiveness of sports.

I also enjoy running in charity races around Louisville with my brother-in-law. It is a great way to incorporate being active and spending time with family.

1) What is your weekly training/exercise routine?

My weekly training/exercise routine consists all Barre, Silque, and Bounce classes at B.YOU {her modern fitness boutique}. I enjoy switching up my workout routine by taking a least one of these classes each week. I have found that it really helps me to alternate the classes I take so my body is constantly being challenging with different forms of cardio and strength training.

2) How do you prepare for a workout?

I usually prepare for my workout by drinking plenty of water to keep my body hydrated and also by setting a goal for myself before each class. I wear a MyZone heart rate monitor that allows me to track my calorie burn and my heart rate during my classes. This allows me to set a certain goal for myself regarding my calorie burn, which is a great visual goal for me to try to achieve.

3) What do you eat, drink or do for quick energy?

I like to eat a banana or snack on almonds if I am in need of a quick energy burst. I also found that keeping my body hydrated allows me to keep my energy high during the day. I try to drink about 2 liters of water daily, but that also depends on the type of classes I am taking or teaching each day.

4) What is your daily nutritional meal plan when training?

I try my best to eat as healthy as I can during the week. I eat lots of protein, vegetables, and fruit to keep my body fueled. I also try to only eat grains during breakfast and lunch because I have found that when I eat heavy grains and carbs for dinner it leaves me feeling bloated and uncomfortable. I also have the biggest sweet tooth so I like to have something sweet once a day. J

5) What do you snack on between meals when training?

My go to snack is usually a banana or a handful of almonds. I feel that these two things curb my hunger and help me function more efficiently until my next meal.

6) What are your fitness & health goals?

My main health and fitness goal is to always be the best that I can be. I sometimes find it hard not to compare myself to others, so I remind myself of how hard I have worked to have the body that I have right now. I want to make fitness fun and do workouts that I enjoy. I love being able to look forward to my Barre, Silque, and Bounce classes at B.YOU because they are something that I truly love. My personal health and fitness goals are to take care of the body that I have been given, keep making fitness something that I enjoy, and to always remember how far I have come on my fitness journey.
