Ballard alum Alex Martin named to SLIAC First-Team

Spalding University’s Alex Martin was named to the 2017 SLIAC Women’s Basketball All-Conference First Team during the SLIAC Tournament over the weekend.

Martin, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky., earned first team honors after finishing the season ranked in the top-5 in five statistical categories. The guard was one of the top scorers in the conference ranking fourth in the SLIAC in points (213) and points per game averaging 13.2 per points per contest, while also shooting 39.3% from beyond the arc, which also ranked fourth in the league. Not just a scorer, Martin ranked fifth in the SLIAC in assists totaling 63 in conference play and 99 including non-conference play, while ranking fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7).

This marks Martin’s second straight season earning all-conference honors after being named SLIAC Third Team All-Conference and All-Defensive Team as a freshman in 2016.

AHS’s Sliter named to SLIAC All-Defensive Team

Senior guard Dee Dee Sliter was named to the 2017 SLIAC Women’s Basketball All-Defensive Team during the SLIAC Tournament over the weekend.

Sliter, a Louisville, Ky. native, would take the opponents top threat night in and night out averaging 2.1 steals per game, while totaling 38 steals on the season.
