JCTMS Basketball Blog (week two)

Michael G. Moore is the head coach of the Jefferson County Traditional Middle School basketball team and is going to do a weekly blog post about his team. If you’re interested in doing a weekly blog post about your team, feel free to email Conor Revell at conor.revell@gmail.com.

Well, the 52 game JCPS win streak finally came to an end as the Crosby Cougars ended the streak.  I know everyone who was a part of that remarkable run will always remember the streak and I doubt any school team ever duplicates that type of streak anytime soon which covered three full seasons. But as they say, all streaks & records are made to be broken, so I’m sure it will be surpassed at some point in the future.

We took a tough 27-21 loss to Crosby last Thursday.  After trailing 18-6, just one of those nights where the ball just wasn’t going in for us early on in the game.  I was proud of the team in the fight we showed coming back to cut the lead to 24-21. But in the end it wasn’t enough as we came up a little bit short.  The ups and downs in that game, we hope is something to learn and grow from moving forward.

We had a great turn out for Alumni Night, the atmosphere was amazing for a middle school girls game.  We had pre-game music during warm-ups, great performances by the JCTMS Step Team and Dance Team at halftime with the cheerleaders doing a great job along the baseline. We even had an announcer doing the play by play during the game which was a great experience for the kids.  It was really nice seeing a lot of former players in attendance cheering the team on in the stands.  After the game we had a special moment as a few former players and Coach Stacy came into the post-game huddle and said a few encouraging and motivating words to the team.

We also celebrated and honored Coach Stacy before the game and presented her with a thank you card and a few personalized gifts to show our appreciation for her years of coaching at JCTMS.

So, it’s time to bounce back this week and improve in a few areas as we play at Highland Middle at 3:30pm on Thursday, Nov. 9th and then have a quick turnaround playing again next Tuesday, Nov 14th at Kammerer Middle at 4:45 p.m.

Moving forward, we will have to play with more confidence and aggressiveness throughout the entire game. Playing with a passion and a desire to compete is always key.
