Where are they now: Local FH stars guide Centre to an Elite Eight appearance

LWSN highlights a local native that plays college athletics or college team with former Louisville stars that are every Monday. If you have a suggestion on a female athlete to highlight , send an email to conor.revell@gmail.com. This week’s feature is on 13 former Louisville high school stars that helped guided Centre’s Field Hockey team to the Elite Eight.

If you look at Centre’s field hockey roster, you might think the historic and prestigious college is in Louisville not Danville. Out of the 23 players on the squad, 13 are from Louisville. Out of the nine players that played in every game this season, five were from the Louisville area.

Ballard alums Olivia Carter and Abigail Rhodes, Christian Academy alum Katie Jenkins, Kentucky County Day alum Christine Semple, Manual alum Sarah Biggs, Hayley Barker, and Chloe Hutchins, and Sacred Heart alums Brooklynn Bell, Erika Bell, Caroline Brotzge, Savannah Elpers, Emily Fry, and Emily Schank all play for the Colonels.

Centre went 17-5 this past season, finished second in the SAA conference during the regular season, and won the SAA Conference Tournament championship.

Bell proved to be a dominant force on the offensive side of the ball and led the team with 22 goals, Barker was second on the team with 17 goals, Elpers led the team with 11 assists, and Biggs was third on the team with 10 goals.

Semple led the defense with five defensive saves while Bell had the second most with four, the rest of the team combined only had one.

Centre’s season ended with a 2-0 loss to The College of New Jersey in the Elite Eight.
