Last Thursday, Jan. 4th, we took a tough loss to Johnson Middle 48-24. We came out and played better in the first half, which was a big difference than our last match-up. This time around, we trailed 24-14 at halftime. Going into the third quarter we struggled due to cold shooting and giving up a series of turnovers. Those turnovers led to easy layups and we gave up too many put backs, which put the game out of reach.
After the game, I told the players, I was proud of them and how they competed. Competing and playing hard for a full game is something we will continue to work on, especially our rebounding and defense. Offensive wise; it’s just a matter of taking care of the ball, making our easy shots and our jump shots going in.
Earlier this week on Tuesday, Jan. 9th we got a 34-20 win vs Westport Middle, which makes our record 6-5 at this point. So, now we have a full week until we play again next Thursday, Jan. 18th at TJ Middle at 3:30pm. We will use this time in practice to focus on rebounding better and taking care of the ball.
Offensive wise; when we are making jumpers things seem to go well but when we aren’t making jumpers, but we struggle to put points on the board. We have to find other ways to score, whether that is transition points or in the half court being able to attack the lane aggressively under control. We continue to emphasize moving without the ball in the half court and better passing to allow ourselves easy shots.
We have a couple of team outings coming up next week:
On Monday, Jan. 15th we will attend the Bellarmine University Women’s home game at 5:45pm vs University Of Southern Indiana.
Tuesday, Jan 16th we will attend the Coach Davenport Show. He is the Head Coach of Bellarmine University Men’s Basketball.
He has his Coaches show each Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at Rooster’s on Preston Highway.
GO LADY CENTURIONS!
