LIT second round recap

The Sacred Heart, Manual, Butler, and Male basketball teams picked wins the in the second round of the Republic Bank/Coca-Cola Consolidated Louisville Invitational Tournament.

The quarterfinals will be held Friday will Sacred Heart facing Nelson County (4 p.m.), Manual facing George Rogers Clark (5:30 p.m.), Butler facing Mercer County (7 p.m.), and Male facing Simon Kenton (8:30 p.m.).

Sacred Heart 60, Bullitt East 49

The first half was quite ugly, Bullitt East (11-7) led 19-12 at one point in the second quarter, and Sacred Heart (15-5) trailed 23-21 at halftime.

Grace Berger didn’t score a point in the opening half, but it was her jumper that gave the Valkyries a 25-23 lead with 6:43 remaining in the third quarter.

Bullitt East never led again as they were outscored 39-26 in the second half.

Samsel was the Valkyries saving grace with nine first half points and finished with 12 points hitting 4 of 12 three pointers. Berger finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Erin Toller chipped in nine points and Clemons added 13 points and 10 rebounds and made 11 of 12 from the free throw line.

Lexi Taylor led Bullitt East with 11 points and six rebounds while Cori Etherton and Amber Higdon both chipped in nine points.

Manual 46, Eastern 44

It was a game of runs that featured 10 ties and eight lead changes, in the end it was the Crimsons on top at the end as Eastern head coach Josh Leslie wanted a foul called on the game final possession.

Manual held the largest lead – a 42-34 advantage in third quarter, but Eastern fought back and took a 34-32 lead going into the final quarter.

Jaela Johnson and Nila Blackford scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to give the Crimsons the lead, one that they never relinquished.

Johnson led Manual with 16 points, five assists, and four rebounds while Aniah Griffin added nine points and Blackford recorded seven points and nine rebounds.

Brea Mishler paced Eastern with 13 points while Mikayla Kinnard added 11 points and Kiara Pearl finished with 10 points.

Butler 46, Mercy 34

The Bearettes (16-2) stormed out to a 22-12 lead and would lead by as many as 14 points in the second half. Mercy (12-8) never got any closer than six in the second half.

Hope Sivori paced the Jaguars with 10 points and four steals. Regan Berger added eight points and four steals while Sydney Rivette chipped in four points and three rebounds.

Jasmine Elder led Butler with 14 points, seven assists, three steals, and three rebounds. Kiara Cain added 13 points and four rebounds while Molly Lockhart finished with eight points and 14 rebounds.

Male 84, Fern Creek 58

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 42-24 halftime lead and never looked. The Tigers trailed by as many as 28 in the second half.

Cameron Browning led Male with 25 points and nine rebounds while Ciaja Harbison added 13 points, India Green chipped in 12 points, and Emelia Sexton and Alana Striverson both recorded 10 points.

Alexis Smith paced Fern Creek with 31 points while Maelyn Ridener recorded eight point sand Alexis Barlow and Tiana Austin both added seven points.
