JCTMS BASKETBALL BLOG (WEEK 13)

Michael G. Moore is the head coach of the Jefferson County Traditional Middle School basketball team and is going to do a weekly blog post about his team. If you’re interested in doing a weekly blog post about your team, feel free to email Conor Revell at conor.revell@gmail.com.

On Sunday, Jan 21st we enjoyed a great team outing to the U of L Women’s basketball game vs Florida State. The team really enjoyed watching the Lady cards and it was an incredible atmosphere at the Yum Center.  After the game a few of the kids went down and got autographs from some of the players.

Our record is now 7-6 after a tough loss on Tuesday, Jan 23rd at Ramsey Middle 45-18.  Ramsey showed why they are 14-0 and the #1 team this season in the Girls Varsity JCPS league.

The Ramsey Middle seventh grade duo of Triniti Ralston and Jakayla Thompson were  overwhelming for us with their aggressive play and speed.  They just took over the game, combining for 35 of the 48 points.  I would say, they are most definitely two of the top Class of 2023/seventh graders locally and in the state.

As we get closer to the City Tourney which will be played Feb 15th-17th  , a likely showdown in the City Semi-finals & Finals between Ramsey vs Johnson/Meyzeek, should be great games.

We have a big South District matchup Thursday, Jan 25th at 3:30pm vs Moore Middle at Moore HS.  We both are 4-0 in District play, so this game will determine who gets the #1 seed and #2 seed in South District Tourney which is played Feb 5th, 7th and 12th .

On this game day we will celebrate our eighth graders with our “Eighth Grade Day.”

This year we send off Four eighth graders (Left to right): Niya Harris, Da’Ahnna King, Carsynn Neal and Alexa Singleton.  As they finish up their middle school basketball career and move on to high school next year.
