Michael G. Moore is the head coach of the Jefferson County Traditional Middle School basketball team and is going to do a weekly blog post about his team. If you’re interested in doing a weekly blog post about your team, feel free to email Conor Revell at conor.revell@gmail.com.

We celebrated our 8th Grade Day last Thursday, Jan. 25th after our game vs Moore Middle.  It was great to see the girls walk out with their families and be honored.  We gave each of them nice gift bags.

In the actual game we had a hard fought and intense game that went down to the wire versus Moore Middle and we came up short losing 36-32.  I was proud of the team and how they showed some fight in coming back after trailing 18-11 at halftime and then trailing 24-15 in third quarter to come back and tie the game at 24.  The game went back and forth until the final minute as it was tied 32-32 and Moore came up with big plays by their 8th grader, Tiffanie Floyd, who finished the game off with two big plays.  Tiffanie Floyd is one of the top 2022/8th graders in Louisville and will be one to look out for next year as she enters high.  She finished with a game high 18 points.  We just had no answer for her, whether it was her scoring or attacking the lane to drop assists to teammates for layups.

Our record now is 7-7 as we finish our regular season with another game vs our rival Barret Traditional Middle School. That game will be played on Thursday, Feb 1st at 6 p.m. at Male HS.  We always play them twice each season, earlier in the season Barret won 27-15, so we hope to bounce back with a better performance this time.

After that we will go into the South District Tournament semifinals on Wednesday, Feb. 7th , where we are the 2-seed and have a showdown with 3-seed Newburg Middle.  That will be a huge game because the loser will have their season end that night and the winner will continue on to play Monday, Feb. 12th vs. Moore Middle for the South District championship.

The City Tournament quarterfinals will be Thursday, Feb. 15th at Westport Middle with game times of 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 8 p.m.

The city semifinals and finals will be played on Saturday, Feb. 17th at Ramsey Middle at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 3 p.m.

Go Lady Centurions!

I would like to also give a shout out to our JCTMS seventh grade boys basketball team as they recently won the KY seventh grade boys middle school state championship in Lexington at the KBA last weekend (Jan. 26-28) out of 73 teams.   Congrats!
