Manual’s basketball team continued its revenge tour with a 60-45 victory over Scott County in the first round of the St. Elizabeth Healthcare/KHSAA Girls’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament
It was sweet revenge as the Lady Cardinals had defeated Manual 76-53 back on Jan. 11th.
The Lady Crimsons led 26-19 at the break thanks to a three-pointer by Jaela Johnson at the halftime horn,
Manual then opened up the second half with a 23-12 run to build a 49-31 fourth-quarter lead, its largest of the game.
Scott County never got any closer than 14 the rest of the way.
The Lady Crimsons dominated the glass grabbing 44 rebounds, nine more than the Lady Cardinals.
Manual hit 19 of 55 (34.5 percent) from the floor including 5 of 15 (33.3 percent) from three-point land and 17 of 26 (65.4 percent) from the free-throw line.
Johnson led the way with 23 points and five rebounds while Nila Blackford added 11 points and 10 rebounds and Tyonne Howard added 10 points and three rebounds.
Scott County shot 18 of 55 (32.7 percent) including a dismal 3 of 17 (17.6 percent) from three-point land and 6 of 8 (75 percent) from the charity stripe.
Juliette Smith led the Lady Cardinals with 17 points and four rebounds while Peyton Riddle added 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
