After a slow start by a young Sacred Heart Team, the Valkyries advance to play in another final by defeating Christian Academy of Louisville 3-0 on Sunday night at Horton Field.
“We had a really good win tonight. I think this has been the best we played throughout the tournament thus far,” said Valkyrie Head Coach Eleanor Mitchell. “We are happy with the win and just looking forward to the finals tomorrow night.”
The Centurions controlled the ball most of the first half. They were unable to convert after an early charges and had their chances with an earned corner 12 minutes into the half.
Sacred Heart’s defense held the Centurions scoreless and led a late half charge with possession for the remainder of the game, but were unable to convert with back to back corners late in the half before Mackenzie McQuade scored to put the Valkyries up 1-0 at half.
A strong charge in the second half gave Sacred Heart the edge. Sacred Heart earned a total of six corners compared to the Centurion’s one.
Sacred Heart’s Reese Wearren was able to find Olivia Mayer with 22:28 left to put Sacred Heart up 2-0.
Valkyries were not finished though as junior Casey Johnson sealed the victory for Sacred Heart to advance the lead to 3-0 with 4:34 left.
Sacred Heart will go on to face Manual in the finals Monday night at 7:45 at Horton Field. The Valkyries defeated Manual 3-1 in the first game of the tournament last week.
