Manual Wins First Apple Tournament

Manual defeated Sacred Heart 1-0 in the 47th Annual Apple Tournament.

This is the first time in tournament history that a public school has won the tournament.

It was rainy and slick on the field, making conditions less than optimal, but each team pushed through and was ready to play.
Manual’s Halle Baisas scored the lone goal of the game 9 minutes into the game after a swing play allowed Manual to break away downfield.

“Everyone played well and we played like a team,” said senior Katherine Frey. “Everybody stuck to their role no matter what that role was, and we were able to come out with the win. It’s exciting.”

Sacred Heart had no answer for Manual who controlled the ball for the majority of the game. Manual also earned 6 corners throughout the game compared to SHA’s 1.

With the 2nd half winding down, Manual’s defense held strong and they were able to complete the upset and make history.

“It’s really cool to win Sacred Heart’s tournament,” Frey exclaimed. “We’re a public school and that hasn’t been done in the history of the Apple Tournament.

With the state tournament two months away, there are still a lot of regular season games to be played, but Manual is going to enjoy this win and continue to build off it.
