After the Highland win, we advanced to play Newburg Middle in the South District Finals at Stuart Middle on Thursday, February 6th at 6pm.
This was the big matchup both sides had been waiting on. Crowd was pumped, players and coaches were pumped. This game did not disappoint, those who paid to get in got their moneys worth!
It was a great battle in the 1st half as we went into halftime up 24-23.
Here is a quick end of game run down:
We were down 35-40 in the last minute of the 4th quarter we got a huge corner 3 by 8th grader, Alana Smith to make it 38-40. After a great defensive possession one time but didn’t convert on offense had to get another stop and we then had to start fouling. They miss the 1 and 1 at the free throw line. We then come down and get the game winning 3 at the top of the key in transition by 8th grader, Gabby Allen with 15 seconds left. We then just needed 1 big stop as Newburg quickly threw the ball in and pushed the ball up the court and passed it ahead, the shot put up by the rim was off and we got the rebound. They had to foul us a couple times and then we were able to dribble around to let the clock run out….then just pure excitement, jubilation and celebrating began as the team rushed floor and began hugging each other and slapping hands and our JCTMS crowd was on their feet applauding the kids great effort and win….What a game!
We had a nice comeback late to win in a classic 41-40!
We were led in scoring by 8th grader, MaKiya Humphrey with 16 points.
Newburg was led in scoring by 7th grader, Morrai Blount with 12 points.
This win puts our record on the season to 12-5.
