JCTMS Basketball Blog (Week 13)

This week we tipped off in the JCPS Junior L.I.T. City Tournament.
We took on Farnsley Middle in the Quarterfinals on Monday, February 10th at Westport Middle at 3:30pm.
We won 42-15.
We were led in scoring by 6th grader, Abby Reitzel with 13 points.
This win took our record on the season to 13-5.
After the Farnsley win, we advanced to Semifinals to play Johnson Middle at Ramsey Middle on Wednesday, February 12th at 6pm.

We came out with a great first quarter to hold the lead 11-10 at end of 1st quarter. We were hanging in there until mid-2nd quarter when Johnson got a few break away layups and key put backs on the inside as we went into halftime down 23-16.

Coming out in 2nd half we just couldn’t put a dent into the lead at all and Johnson went on to control the game and finish it out with a 44-29 win for Johnson.

We were led in scoring by 8th grader, MaKiya Humphrey with 10 points.

Johnson was led in scoring by 7th grader, A’nieja Russell and 8th grader Emaree Gober who both had 9 points each.

This loss puts our record on the season to 13-6.

As we wrap up another season, I was proud of this group for the season we had. Winning the South District championship was exciting, especially winning it in such a thrilling classic and for reaching the City Semifinals.

I wish all our 8th Graders well and good luck as they move up to high school next year.

Looking at what we will have next year on the Varsity team, we will be very young. Only had a couple rising 8th Graders this year who had minor roles.  So we will lean heavy on the rising 7th grade class and with any strong 6th graders coming.

The rising 7th Grade core for next year, as 6th graders this year, helped lead our JV (6th/7th Grade team) to a JV tournament semifinalist finish as they went 9-3 on their season.

Here are the scores from the City Tournament games this week:
