2020-2021 JCPS Middle School Preview

Guest blogger, JCTMS Girls basketball coach, Michael G. Moore Jr. writes his preview about this upcoming middle school basketball season

Previous JR L.I.T. City Champs:

2015, 2016, 2017 – JCTMS

2018 – Ramsey Middle

2019, 2020- Johnson Traditional Middle

The competition this year for the JR. L.I.T. City Championship will have a lot of new faces.  Some of these individuals will also make noise in high school in a couple years in the 6th & 7th Region. Here are the top contenders for this season (Crosby, Johnson, Noe, Newburg).

Crosby Middle looks to reclaim the Varsity city crown for the first time since 2012 as they return their core who won the JV city title last year.  They are led by three quick and athletic guards which allows them the ability to press full court and cause havoc for opposing teams. On the offensive end they can push the ball up the floor quickly for layups and hurt you in the half court by spacing the floor.

Johnson Traditional Middle looks to 3-Peat as Varsity City Champs.  They will rely on a trio of scorers this year which is a slight change from the incredible depth of scoring options like in previous seasons.  On the defensive end they will continue to use their athletes and speed to play with intensity and hard nosed defense.

Noe Middle brings back a very well balanced squad led by a strong duo of 8th graders who can score in various ways. They will play a very aggressive 2-3 zone and really make you earn your points in the half-court. Noe looks to make a run at their first Varsity city title.

Newburg Middle returns a terrific trio of scorers. Which will make them a very dangerous squad this season for opposing teams. The ability to have multiple offensive threats is a nice benefit to rely on.  Newburg looks to make a run at their first Varsity city title.
