Knights Field Hockey Signs Trio of Recruits

LOUISVILLE, Ky.–Bellarmine University Field Hockey Coach Mark Blankenbaker has announced that three recruits have signed national letters of intent during the November early signing period. Caroline Krill and Katie Jo Hollkamp–both Louisville natives–join Dana Hemingway of San Diego to form BU’s recruiting class.

“Replacing our departing seniors with the talent and leadership they contributed to our team was a tough task,” Blankenbaker said. “We focused on players that played at a high level in high school and on highly ranked club teams.  We believe we found three players that fit our criteria on and off the field.  All three can and will compete for playing time next season.  Caroline , Katie Jo and Dana come to Bellarmine from winning programs and are very well coached.  They have experience in tournament play on a national level with their club teams and as a group are very talented. We are extremely pleased to have all three joining our team.  With eight returning starters and a very deep and experienced bench our goal of winning the ECAC Championship is within reach.”

Katie Jo is fun to watch on the field, she’s tough and very skilled.  She understands the game and can adjust to the circumstances as they develop.  She is a very good defender and can put the ball in the cage on the attack end. Katie Jo and Caroline played Club together at IFHCK which should help both adjust to college. We are excited to see her play at Bellarmine the next four years.”

Blankenbaker on Hemingway: “We are very excited to sign Dana, she has speed, skill and the endurance to play 70 minutes.  Dana played on a highly ranked club team in California, with RUSH Field Hockey.  Dana has experience playing against top level competition from the National Futures Tournament this summer.  Dana is a good defender off the ball and is a scorer, very aggressive around the cage.  I like how she moves on the field, anticipating ball movement to gain an advantage on attack. She will provide more talent and depth to our very talented front line.”
