Wednesday’s Child: Teen gives raw details about foster care, hopes for adoptive family
José, 15, is full of surprises.
The high school sophomore likes 1990s rap, he knows three languages — English, Spanish, and American Sign Language — and he wants to be a tattoo artist when he’s older.
José tries to make the best of foster care and hopes an adoptive family will provide him with guidance and support. But trying to make sense of his past while hoping for a better future is tough.
“I work out my anger, I work out my depression. I work out all that stuff,” he said.
While José wants to be adopted, he said the idea can sometimes make him feel like he’s betraying his biological family.
“Are our parents going to be mad at us,” he asked. “Are our siblings going to be mad at us?”
José’s social workers said he would do best in a family setting. José is cautiously optimistic he’ll find the right fit.
“Even though life is good, sometimes there’s bad, sometimes you may feel like you’re dead, sometimes you feel alive,” he said.
