Wednesday’s Child: Mackenzie, 12, hopes for 'happy forever family'

Wednesday’s Child: Mackenzie, 12, hopes for 'happy forever family'
NOT GOING TO FEEL LIKE IT. OKAY, GOOD IDEA, MO, THANK YOU. WELL, FOR DECADES, W-L-K-Y HAS HELPED LOCAL CHILDREN FIND FOREVER HOMES THROUGH THE WEDNESDAYS CHILD PROGRAM. THIS WEEK, OUR KRISTINA MORA INTRODUCES US TO 12 YEAR OLD MACKENZIE, A SEVENTH GRADER WHO KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT SHE WANTS IN A FOREVER HOME. IT DOESN’T REALLY MATTER TO ME AS LONG AS IT’S A HAPPY FAMILY. IT’S EASY TO SEE. 12 YEAR OLD MACKENZIE LOVES TO HAVE FUN. YOU TRICKED ME ON THAT ONE. SHE CAN BE SILLY AND QUIRKY, AND SHE ISN’T SHY ABOUT WHAT SHE WANTS FOR HER FUTURE. I WOULD LIKE IT TO BE LIKE CARING AND LOVING AND ALSO TO LIKE, TO, LIKE, BE THE MIDDLE CHILD. BUT NOT TO BE THE OLDEST. TO HAVE LIKE, SOMEONE YOUNGER SO WE CAN, LIKE, CHAT AND PLAY A LITTLE BIT MORE ACTIVE INSTEAD OF HAVING SOMEBODY OLDER THAT’S ALWAYS BUSY, MACKENZIE SAYS JIM IS HER FAVORITE CLASS IN SCHOOL BECAUSE SHE GETS BORED SITTING AT A DESK. SHE LOVES SLEEP AND HER FAVORITE FOOD IS, WELL, A COMBINATION OF THINGS. I LOVE PIZZA AND LASAGNA WITH RANCH. IT’S KIND OF WEIRD, BUT MAGICALLY GOOD. BUT PIZZA AND LASAGNA IS A MIX, AND HER MOTHER, MACKENZIE, HAS NOT LET HER EXPERIENCE IN FOSTER CARE BREAK HER SPIRIT. SHE ADMITS, THOUGH, IT’S NOT EASY. IT’S JUST KIND OF HARD BECAUSE SOMETIMES YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE YOU’RE GOING AND YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN IN LIFE AND STUFF LIKE THAT. SO AND THAT FEELING IS SCARY, RIGHT? WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW. YEAH. MACKENZIE’S SOCIAL WORKER SAY SHE’S MORE THAN READY TO MOVE ON FROM FOSTER CARE AND SETTLE INTO A CARING FAMILY. FOR DEBBIE WILKEY IN WEDNESDAY’S CHILD, I’M CHRISTINA MORA. She can be silly and quirky, and she isn’t shy about what she wants for her future forever family. “I would like it to be caring and loving, and also to be the middle child, not to be the oldest,” Mackenzie said. “To have someone younger so we can chat and play, more active instead of someone older that’s always busy.”Mackenzie said gym is her favorite class in school because she gets bored sitting at a desk. She loves sleep. And her favorite food is a combination of things.“I love pizza and lasagna with ranch. It’s kind of weird, but ranch is really good with pizza and lasagna.”Mackenzie has not let her experience in foster care break her spirit. Though she admits, it’s not easy. “It’s just kind of hard because sometimes you don’t know where you’re going, and you don’t know what’s going to happen in life.”If you want to learn more about Mackenzie or other Kentucky children waiting on a forever family, click here.
