Wednesday's Child hosts annual Christmas party for Kentucky foster care kids
TO ENJOY THE FUN OF THE HOLIDAY SEASON. WEDNESDAY’S CHILD HAS ALWAYS BEEN A GREAT PARTNER TO THE DEPARTMENT, ESPECIALLY TO OUR KIDS THAT ARE IN FOSTER CARE. EVERY YEAR THEY PARTNER WITH US TO DO GREAT HOLIDAY PARTIES AND IT JUST MAKES CHRISTMAS SO SPECIAL FOR OUR KIDS. ON WEDNESDAY, OVER 100 KIDS IN THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM ACROSS THE STATE GOT TO CELEBRATE THE CHRISTMAS SEASON WITH GAMES, GIFTS, AND THE BIG MAN HIMSELF. HO HO HO. MERRY CHRISTMAS! WEDNESDAY’S CHILD, ALONG WITH OTHER LOCAL PARTNERS, PUT ON THE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY LASER TAG. THE GRAVITY ROPES, THE BOWLING LANE, THE POOL TABLES. THIS IS ALL THE THINGS THAT THE KIDS CAN DO AT NO COST TO US, BECAUSE THE MAIN EVENT DONATED IT. IT’S AN ATMOSPHERE THAT THEY’RE FREE TO BE LOUD AND BOISTEROUS AND CELEBRATE THE SEASON. IN ADDITION TO THE FUN AND GAMES, KIDS ALSO GOT GIFTS AND A LOT OF THEM. EACH KID TELLS THEIR CASEWORKER TWO ITEMS THAT THEY WANT OFF THEIR CHRISTMAS LIST, AND THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS BUY THEM EXACTLY THAT. THEY WANT A LAPTOP. THEY GET A LAPTOP. THEY WANT A BIKE TO GET A BIKE. THAT’S WHAT WE TRY TO DO. WE TRY TO TAKE CARE OF FAMILIES AND LIKE THESE WEDNESDAY’S CHILD KIDS. AND BECAUSE THEY’RE AWESOME KIDS AND WE JUST TRY TO MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A HAPPY CHRISTMAS. THE ANNUAL TRADITION BEGAN OVER 20 YEARS AGO, AND IT CONTINUES TO GROW EACH YEAR. THEY TRULY SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION BACK TO US, SO THERE’S GREAT REWARD WHEN WE DO THIS EVERY YEAR. WE WISH WE COULD DO MORE. THESE EVENTS ARE A GREAT IMPORTANCE AND THEY’RE A GREAT SUPPORT TO OUR FOSTER FAMILIES AND OUR FACILITIES THAT PROVIDE STABLE ENVIRONMENTS FOR OUR KIDS. WE COULD NOT DO WHAT WE DO TO MAKE CHRISTMAS AS SPECIAL AS IT SHOULD BE. FOR THESE KIDS. WITHOUT THE SUPPORT

"These events are of great importance, and they're a great support to our foster families and our facilities that provide stable environments for our kids," said Amanda Gehring, with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services. "We make sure that we have the kids available to them and so that they know they know which kids are in need and what kind of gifts we're looking for, just so that we can give them a special Christmas as if they were part of a regular family.""If they want a laptop, they get a laptop. If they want a bike to get a bike," said Steve Arnold with the Knights of Columbus. "We try to take care of these Wednesday's Child kids because they're awesome kids and we just try to make sure they have a happy Christmas."Dana Carroll, with Wednesday's child, said the Main Event closed down their space just for the annual party.
