AUTHORITIES ARE STILL INVESTIGATING THE FIRE. IT’S BEEN THREE MONTHS SINCE BAXTER’S. NINE. 42 CLOSED ITS DOORS AFTER THE BAR AND GRILL’S LIQUOR LICENSE RENEWAL WAS DENIED. WLKY’S MEGAN MATHEWS TALKED TO THE ATTORNEY ON THE CASE AND HAS MORE ON THE FUTURE OF THIS HIGHLANDS BUSINESS. ON MONDAY, A DECISION WAS NOT MADE REGARDING BAXTER’S. 942 BAR AND GRILL’S RENEWAL REQUEST FOR A LIQUOR LICENSE. GOVERNMENT CALLED SEVERAL WITNESSES. I CALLED SEVERAL WITNESSES ON BEHALF OF BAXTER’S, AND AT THE END OF THE HEARING, HE RULED THAT HE WAS NOT RULING RIGHT NOW. FRANK MOSCONI, THE ATTORNEY FOR BAXTER’S. 942, EXPLAINED THAT SINCE NOVEMBER 1ST, BAXTER’S HAS LOST OUT ON ROUGHLY $300,000 WORTH OF REVENUE. IF THIS GOES ANOTHER 90 DAYS, THAT’S OVER HALF $1 MILLION IN GROSS REVENUES AND LIQUOR SALES, WHICH IS THE PARAMOUNT AMOUNT OF MONEY EXPENDED. THE DECISION MADE BY ABC TO NOT RENEW THE LIQUOR LICENSE WAS INFLUENCED BY COMMUNITY INPUT AND CONCERNS. REPEATED ACTS OF VIOLENCE HAPPEN NEAR THE BUSINESS, INCLUDING SHOOTINGS, BUT NEVER ON THE PREMISE ITSELF. AND WHILE SOME COMMUNITY MEMBERS ARE IN FAVOR OF BAXTER’S OPENING BACK UP, WE’VE TALKED TO MANY WHO SAY THAT THE NEIGHBORHOOD HAS BECOME A LOT MORE QUIET SINCE IT CLOSED. IT’S BEEN DEFINITELY QUIETER. I LOVE THE ODOR. HE’S DOING A GREAT JOB WITH WHAT HE HAD COMING IN, AND HE DID THE BEST THAT HE COULD DO. OTHERS SAYING IT’S NOT JUST BAXTER’S CAUSING THE ISSUE, BUT THE AMOUNT OF BARS LOCATED ON BAXTER AVENUE ITSELF. I DON’T THINK I’D EVER LIVE ON THESE COUPLE BLOCKS AGAIN. IT’S VERY LOUD. MY CAR IS BROKEN INTO IN THE ALLEYS. THERE’S A LOT OF PEOPLE GOING THROUGH THE TRASH IN THIS AREA. JUST A LOT OF ACTIVITY. BAXTER’S 942 WAS RENEWED THIS YEAR FOR A STATE LIQUOR LICENSE. IT IS NOW WAITING ON A RULING FOR A LOCAL LICENSE IN ORDER TO REOPEN ITS DOORS IN THE HIGHLANDS, MEGAN MATHEWS WLKY NEWS. THANK YOU MEGAN AND BAXTER’S. 942. S ATTORNEY SAYS THE JUDGE SHOULD MAKE A DECISION ON WHETHER T

I love the owner. He's doing a great job with what he had coming in. He did the best that he could do," said Sam, a Highlands resident. Others attribute the issues not just to Baxter's but to the abundance of bars on Baxter Avenue."I don't think I'd ever live on these couple blocks again. It's very loud. My car is broken into in the alleys. There's a lot of people going through the trash in this area. Just a lot of activity," said Zach Newman, a Highlands resident.Baxter's 942 has already secured a state liquor license renewal this year and is now awaiting a ruling on the local license to reopen.
