Norton surgeon becomes first in the world to perform spine surgery using robot technology
A doctor with Norton Healthcare became the first surgeon in the world to perform spine surgery using the newest technology.
Dr. Jeffrey Gum, with Norton Leatherman Spine, used a next-generation robotic-assisted platform designed for greater precision and accuracy.
The new technology helps streamline workflow, supports faster operating room times, and helps with planning. It also helps customize the surgical plan for each patient.
"A better outcome for the patient that is what matters the most, right? It's been a great opportunity to be involved in the design process to have Norton and Medtronic come together to work really hard to make this happen but overall the number one better outcome for the patient," said Dr. Gum.
Gum co-designed the new tool.
