Fourth horse, The Puma, scratches from the Kentucky Derby
SCRATCH OF THE PUMA. EVERY DAY THERE’S SOMETHING. IT FEELS LIKE THE PUMA CAME OUT THIS MORNING. UNFORTUNATE FOR THEM. HE WAS A REAL PLAYER THIS YEAR. YOU HATE TO SEE IT, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU GET THIS CLOSE TO THE RACE. YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS HAVE ALL CHIPPED IN AND JUST BAD NEWS TO START THE DAY FOR THEM. TOO BAD THAT HORSE. IT’S A HUGE GROUP. THERE’S ABOUT 5 OR 6 PRINCIPAL OWNERS AND THEY ALL HAVE PARTNERS, BUT OBVIOUSLY A VERY SIMILAR CONNECTIONS TO MAGE FROM A FEW YEARS AGO. WELL, WE WERE JOKING BECAUSE WE ALL HEARD THAT TAYLOR SWIFT HAS A PART IN THE HORSE, AND WE THOUGHT YOU MIGHT KNOW. NOBODY KNOWS THAT. WHETHER OR NOT THAT’S TRUE OR NOT, SOMETHING TELLS ME TAYLOR IS STILL GOING TO BE JUST FINE. I THINK YOU’RE RIGHT. IT SHOWS YOU THAT, YOU KNOW, AS WE TALK TO THESE TRAINERS, THE WEEKS LEADING UP TO THE RACE, YOU KNOW, YOU JUST WANT TO PUT THESE HORSES IN BUBBLE WRAP BECAUSE EVERY DAY, EVERY COUPLE OF MINUTES IS A CHALLENGE. AND YOU NEVER REALLY KNOW UNTIL YOU LEAD THEM OVER HERE. YEAH. BRAD SAID TO ME AT KEENELAND, HE GOES, YOU KNOW, THIS IS TWO WEEKS AGO. CAITLIN WAS STILL RUNNING. I JUST WANT TO GET THE RACE OVER WITH. HORSE IS DOING WELL AND HERE WE ARE. BRAD LOST ONE HORSE FULL EFFORT SCRATCHED OUT. JUST SHOWS YOU THINGS CAN CHANGE SO QUICKLY. IT’S SUCH A DELICATE TRAIL. AND YOU’RE ON PINS AND NEEDLES REALLY

The Puma has been scratched from the Kentucky Derby. Nicole Russo, from Daily Racing Form, said he has a minor skin infection that has caused some swelling on his leg, and he won't be able to race because of it.“It’s incredibly disappointing, but the swelling should go down within a day or two. It’s just really bad timing,” said trainer Gustavo Delgado. This marks the fourth horse to pull out of the Derby. There will now only be 19 horses taking part in the Run for the Roses, which is the same number of horses that took part in last year's race.
