New retro-themed dessert shop proving to be a hit in New Albany
But I got you. Hi, how are you? OK, so this bakery is new in New Albany. It's called Norma Jean's Bakery. She's been here since April. She's open on Thursdays and Fridays from 4 to 8 p.m. and she's gonna be extending her hours starting June 1st to 3 days *** week. Well, every single time that she's open, there's *** line down the street before she opens. I witnessed it myself and also she sells out. So I got to see what the hype was all about. She's working. And the people. Just aren't here for the sweets. They're here for her. Meet the woman behind Norma Jean's, named after her grandmother. She's been baking for 11 years, but this is her very first storefront. She makes everything homemade from cakes in all kinds of flavors to brownies that sell out fast. Yes, the housewife look, that's intentional. *** friend of mine made *** post that said, you should look like what you're selling. I was like, how can I do that? So, I said, OK, I know I can dress like *** housewife, which at the time I was on maternity leave. Anyway, so I'm like I can dress like *** housewife. It tripled my sales. We sold out that first, that first day, the following weekend, the first time that I dressed that way, and I never went back. And she hasn't stopped since. To like know that people are coming for something that I make that I've worked so hard on, like, oh, that's amazing.

Norma Jean's Bakery opened in April and has already built a loyal following, with customers often lining up down the street before the doors even open.

The woman behind the bakery, Jerrica Tinsley, says the business is deeply personal to her.

The shop is named after her grandmother, and while she's been baking for more than a decade, this marks her first-ever storefront.

Everything she sells is homemade, including cakes and brownies that are often gone within hours.

Part of the bakery’s growing popularity also comes from Tinsley's signature vintage "housewife" style.

"The housewife look, yes, that’s intentional. A friend of mine made a post that said, ‘You should look like what you’re selling,’" Tinsley said.

She took her friend's advice, making the look a part of her brand, and her business quickly took off after that.

"We sold out that first day the following weekend,” she said. “The first time I dressed that way, and I never went back."

Norma Jean's is currently open just on Thursdays and Fridays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., but Tinsley said she's planning to expand her store hours on June 1 and add another day.
