Oldham County voters watch local, national races closely
SCHOOL. NORMAN SEAWRIGHT WLKY NEWS. THANKS. NORMAN WAS BUSY AT MY POLL SITE TODAY. WELL, THE OLDHAM COUNTY IN THAT AREA, THE BIGGEST RACE IS THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY FOR JUDGE EXECUTIVE, A POSITION THAT ACTS SIMILAR TO THE MAYOR FOR THE COUNTY. WLKY MADISON ELLIOTT TALKED TO VOTERS AT SOUTH OLDHAM MIDDLE SCHOOL ABOUT WHY THEY CAME OUT. HERE IN OLDHAM COUNTY, THERE ARE SOME CONTENTIOUS LOCAL RACES, BUT WE SPOKE TO VOTERS WHO ALSO TOLD US THEY’RE KEEPING AN EYE ON THE NATIONAL RACES. EARLY VOTING NUMBERS ARE BIG ACROSS THE STATE. IN OLDHAM COUNTY, CLERK AMY ALVEY SAYS SHE SAW THE SAME TREND HERE. WE HAD AN AWESOME TURNOUT. WE HAD 4390 AT OUR TWO VOTING LOCATIONS FOR THREE DAYS, SO IT WAS GREAT. BY TUESDAY MORNING, VOTERS WERE ALREADY PACKING SOUTH OLD MIDDLE SCHOOL AS LOCAL CONTESTED RACES ARE DRIVING THE CROWDS. OLDHAM COUNTY HAS A CONTENTIOUS COUNTY JUDGE EXECUTIVE RACE, AND A LOT OF OUR MAGISTRATES HAVE OPPOSITION THIS CYCLE, TOO. SO WE’RE EXPECTING A LARGE TURNOUT. VOTER AND CLINTON BROUGHT HER GRANDDAUGHTERS ALONG. SHE’S WATCHING THOSE LOCAL SEATS CLOSELY AND I HOPE THE BEST PERSON FOR OUR COUNTY BECOMES THE WINNER, BECAUSE WE COULD USE THE GOOD LEADER. OF COURSE, KEEP THIS COUNTY MOVING FORWARD. BUT HER BIGGER FOCUS IS THE U.S. HOUSE RACE. AS THOMAS MASSIE TRIES TO HOLD ON TO HIS SEAT AGAINST PRESIDENT TRUMP BACKED CHALLENGER. AND THEN I WANT TO SEE US CONTINUE TO GROW AND BE STRONG AND WANT US TO MAKE THE RIGHT MOVES FOR THE COUNTRY. I’M CONCERNED ABOUT WHERE WE ARE HEADED. FOR VOTER BRIAN PEARL, NATIONAL RACES WERE THE MAIN DRAW. THE FEDERAL LEVEL ELECTIONS FOR SENATE AND REPRESENTATIVE. I THINK IT’S PRETTY IMPORTANT TO VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE THAT I THINK IS GOING TO BEST FILL THE ROLE. THE ISSUES ON HIS MIND, THE WAR IN IRAN, UKRAINE AND GAS PRICES. THAT’S WHERE PEOPLE GET HIT THE MOST. AT THE END OF THE DAY, VOTERS SAY IT’S ABOUT PROTECTING THE COUNTY FOR THE NEXT GENERATION. WITHOUT OLDHAM COUNTY, I WOULDN’T LIVE AND I WOULDN’T HAVE FUN AND I WOULDN’T HAV
