LMPD: Tree falls, kills cyclist in Iroquois Park
Louisville Metro Police say a man has died after a tree fell on him in Iroquois Park.
Officers were called out to the 1600 block of Rundill Road in Iroquois Park around 7 p.m. Saturday to assist EMS on reports of a person down.
Police say the 911 caller reported that a tree fell on top of a cyclist and that they were unable to move the tree.
According to police the cyclist, a man, was pronounced dead on the scene by medical professional.
LMPD's Homicide Unit will conduct a death investigation.
On Sunday, Louisville Parks and Recreation provided a statement about the incident saying in part, "We are deeply saddened to confirm that a tragic accident occurred in Iroquois Park yesterday evening, Saturday, May 23, at approximately 7:00 p.m. In the area near the golf course, a tree fell onto a cyclist, following prolonged rain and saturated soil conditions. Despite emergency response efforts, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."
The agency added that public safety is its top priority, and it will continue working with authorities as they investigate the incident.
