MORE THAN 5500 FALLEN MILITARY ARE LAID TO REST. A SOUTHERN INDIANA GROCER SEES A NEED IN HIS COMMUNITY AND HAS DECIDED TO HELP OUT IN HIS OWN WAY. NORMAN SEAWRIGHT TAKES US TO CLARKSVILLE TO SHOW US HOW. YESTERDAY WE FED OVER 26 PEOPLE AND EVEN TODAY, LIKE AROUND 30 PEOPLE. SO FAR, INDER KUMAR HAS LIVED A LOT OF LIFE AS A TAXI DRIVER AND ACTOR AND STUNTMAN IN HOLLYWOOD FILM PRODUCTIONS AND AS THE OWNER OF SPICE LAND INDIAN GROCERY IN CLARKSVILLE, INDIANA, WHERE HE’S DECIDED A LOT OF PEOPLE, THEY GOT KICKED OUT. THEY LOST THEIR JOBS BECAUSE THE ECONOMY GOING ON RIGHT NOW, THEY DON’T HAVE FOOD AND THEY ALWAYS ASKING FOR HELP TO COOK TRADITIONAL INDIAN DISHES FREE TO ANYONE WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY FOR THEM. BUTTER, CHICKEN, GOAT CURRY, CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA, NO STRINGS ATTACHED, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. KUMAR JUST WANTS TO MAKE SURE THAT THE COMMUNITY HE CALLS HOME IS TAKEN CARE OF. I WILL FEED TILL THEY FIND A BETTER JOB, OR THEY CAN STAND ON THEIR FEET. THEY HAVE A PLACE TO STAY. KUMAR FIRST ANNOUNCED ON FACEBOOK THAT HE’D BE DOING THIS, AND ALONG WITH PEOPLE WHO COULD USE THE HELP, HE’S GOTTEN, NEW CUSTOMERS. I GREW UP IN CLARKSVILLE. IT WAS NICE SEEING JUST JUST AN OUTREACH OF COMMUNITY AND KIND OF A DARK TIME, YOU KNOW, AS THE PREVAILING WINDS BLOW, WE CAME IN AND IT’S THERE’S EVERYTHING THAT I WOULD EVER NEED TO AND I DON’T HAVE TO DRIVE THIS FAR. AND IT’S GREAT AND ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE SENSE OF COMMUNITY. SOME HAVE EVEN MADE CASH DONATIONS, WHICH KUMAR SAYS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO WHOMEVER NEEDS THE MONEY. WHOEVER NEEDS HELP WITH THEIR THEIR ELECTRIC BILL WATER BILL WILL HELP THEM OUT ANY WAY WE CAN HELP, EVEN MONETARILY BY PURCHASING STUFF FROM HERE, WE WOULD BE DOWN TO DO IT, KUMAR SAYS THE BEST WAY TO HELP IS TO PAY IT FORWARD IN ANY WAY YOU CAN. JUST WHAT I’M DOING, YOU D
