LMPD: 6 people injured after shooting at motorcycle club in southwest Louisville
AN AUTOPSY REPORT WILL REVEAL THE CRASH AND THE SHOOTING ARE CONNECTED. THE VIOLENT MORNING HAS LEFT A NEIGHBORHOOD SHAKEN AND POLICE ARE ASKING FOR HELP FINDING OUT WHO DID THIS. JOYCE OGIRRI IS IN THE NEWSROOM. LIVE WITH US. WHAT’S NEW WITH THIS INVESTIGATION? JOYCE? WELL, INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE AT LEAST FOUR WEAPONS WERE USED AND NEARLY 90 ROUNDS WERE FIRED AT THE TIME OF THE SHOOTING. I SPOKE WITH ONE PERSON WHO WAS INSIDE THE MOTORCYCLE CLUB WHEN IT HAPPENED. IT WAS VERY CALM AT FIRST. EVERYONE WAS HAVING A GOOD TIME AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, GUNSHOT AFTER GUNSHOT. I WAS IN THE BACK BY THE STAGE, AND THEN AS SOON AS I HEARD THE GUNSHOTS JUST WENT UP AGAINST THE WALLS. MY FRIENDS WERE DUCKING DOWN. EVERYONE WAS RUNNING OUT THE BUILDING. IT WAS VERY CHAOTIC. OFFICERS WERE CALLED TO THE STREET. EIGHT RIDERS MOTORCYCLE CLUB ON BARRE BOULEVARD AROUND SIX SUNDAY MORNING. WHEN THEY GOT THERE, THEY FOUND TWO WOMEN HAD BEEN SHOT. VERY SAD. I DON’T KNOW WHY SOMEONE WOULD WANT TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT. IT WAS MY FIRST TIME COMING HERE OR EVEN BEING IN A SITUATION LIKE THAT. CLOSE TO GUNSHOTS. VIDEO SHOWS PEOPLE DROPPING TO THE GROUND WHILE OTHERS RUSHED OUT THE BUILDING. I TRIED TO EXIT. THE POLICE OFFICERS TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO LEAVE THROUGH THE BACK, AND I WAS JUST WAITING AROUND, AT LEAST TILL IT CALMED. I LOST MY KEYS. I WAS JUST TRYING TO MAKE SURE MY FRIENDS WERE OKAY AND THAT I COULD JUST LEAVE SAFELY. IN THE HOURS THAT FOLLOWED, FOUR ADDITIONAL WOMEN CONNECTED TO THE INCIDENT SHOWED UP AT U OF L HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. POLICE SAY FIVE OUT OF THE SIX VICTIMS ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN SHOT. ONE WOMAN WAS GRAZED BY A BULLET. I REALLY DON’T KNOW WHERE THE GUNSHOTS HAD TO HAVE CAME FROM OUTSIDE BECAUSE THEY WERE CHECKING BAGS AT THE DOOR. SHELL CASINGS COULD BE SEEN AROUND THE BUILDING AS POLICE CONTINUE THEIR INVESTIGATION. RODRIGUEZ SAYS THE EXPERIENCE IS A WAKE UP CALL. IT MAKES ME NOT WANT TO GO OUT AGAIN. IT’S VERY SCARY, ESPECIALLY LIKE OLD LOUISVILLE COME. IT’S HAPPENING A LITTLE TOO FREQUENT. A BUSINESS OWNER NEXT DOOR SAYS THE SHOOTING HAS LEFT HIM CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY IN THE AREA. WE NEED MORE SECURITY, YOU KNOW, THEN WE WANT AUTHORITY ALSO TO FOCUS ON THIS AREA MORE THAN BEFORE. THIS IS VERY SAD. WE DON’T WANT THIS HAPPEN. IN A STATEMENT, LMPD SPOKESPERSON MATT SANDERS SAYS THE SHOOTING IS, QUOTE, DISTURBING AND DISHEARTENING. HE SAYS A CULTURE OF SILENCE CONTINUES TO ALLOW VIOLENT INCIDENTS TO HAPPEN IS UNACCEPTABLE. LOUISVILLE METRO ABC SAYS THE CLUB DIDN’T HAVE THE PROPER ALCOHOL LICENSE. AGENTS CONDUCTED A SEARCH WARRANT AND REMOVED ALCOHOL FROM THE BUILDING.
